Once you get the right lighting, you can locate the spots where the lights will go on your ceiling using a tape measure and measurements from your lighting plan. Mark the spots on the ceiling using a marker and a stepladder. Stick a wire hanger to each mark and into the ceiling to help you determine where the joists are in your ceiling. If you have an attic, you can see the joists location, typically joists don’t allow for recessed light housings so that you have to avoid it by making sure that there is enough space in between each one. After marking the locations of your lighting, you can work with the light houses. Trace a circle around the mark of the location of your lighting with the wire hanger as the center. Cut along the circle using a hole saw and insert lighting house into the hole, then attach brackets. Connect electrical wiring to the proper power source to locate a switch. Now you can twist in a bulb and adjust light trimming to complete your project.
